Through Red Gate via two high-mountainous passes, lies the way to the natural boundary Paziric. Here were found the burial places of ancient people which are well preserved thanks to the Permafrost. In 1929 academician S. Rudenko dug out the first Paziric barrow, in 1947-1949 the archeologists Grjaznov and Rudenko have discovered a chain of five big tumulus which are numbered in the order of opening.
Unfortunately, barrows have been plundered long before their discovering by scientists, nevertheless, those finds which have been made by archeologists gave to the world a quite detailed representation about how these ancient people looked , about their life and culture of the Scythian period of Altai – VI—III centuries BC , the archaeological name of this culture – Paziric - after a valley where have been the mummies of the ancient people of the Caucasoid race found, they are dated to the Iron Age! Mummy’s bodies are covered by skilful tattoos with intricate drawings this is the most ancient evidence of a tattoo in the world. By the saved samples of clothes scientists can tell that in this society people heped of weaver's craft, of colors combination, these fine horsemen were wearing trousers - at that time, it was unprecedented thing for the majority of the "civilized" nations. One more detail from a life of ancient inhabitants of Altai is that they gave great value to smells and aromas – fragrant small pillows, hemp and cardamom seeds have been found in all barrows. Cardamom used as seasoning to food and as fragrance – its seeds put into the burials to reduce a decomposition smell. The hemp played the important role in a life of the nomadic people – they made clothes, used in food and with its help, people removed stress and communicated with the Spirits.
The majority of these finds are keeping in national museums of Russia now, nevertheless, habitats of the Paziric culture deserve a special attention. When you looking at these great mountain spaces you realize that whoever these ancient people were, they knew about the Beauty, aptly they lived in the Altai Mountains!
